Getting Started

  • Your first step is a complimentary introductory call. We'll discuss your goals, review your concerns, and determine whether the Dementia Preventive Program, Neurologic Consultation, or Mind Over Menopause™ is the right fit for you. You can book directly through our online calendar — because this is a small, physician-led practice, scheduling by phone is not always possible.

  • Yes. Former patients are always welcome. Start by scheduling an introductory call so we can discuss where you are now and what makes sense next.

  • New patients are typically seen within one to two weeks. If you need non-traditional hours, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate.

  • For Neurologic Consultation and Mind Over Menopause™, initial visits are approximately 90 minutes and follow-up visits are one hour. For the Dementia Preventive Program, initial visits are typically two hours and follow-up visits range from 90 to 120 minutes depending on what's needed. We don't impose a time limit on visits that require more.

  • No referral is required. All patients are asked to maintain a relationship with a primary care provider to support continuity of care.

About the Practice

  • Healthspan Neurology operates outside the insurance billing system. There are no monthly membership fees or concierge premiums — you pay for visits directly, as needed. This model allows for longer appointments, a proactive approach to prevention, and recommendations based on what you actually need rather than what insurance will cover.

  • In addition to the Dementia Preventive Program and Mind Over Menopause™, Dr. Gajaweera offers comprehensive neurologic consultations and second opinions for a broad range of conditions — including headache and migraine, memory concerns, dizziness, neuropathy, movement disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and more. With over 25 years of general neurology experience, she has expertise in diagnosing and managing complex neurologic conditions across the full spectrum of the specialty.

  • Yes. Many patients come to Healthspan Neurology after receiving a diagnosis elsewhere, or after feeling that their concerns haven't been fully addressed. A second opinion is always a reasonable step, and we welcome those conversations.

  • Our office is on the fourth floor of 2290 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14610 — in Brighton, minutes from the I-490 and I-590 interchanges and easily accessible from throughout the Rochester area. Visits are by appointment only.

  • Yes to both. Telemedicine appointments are available for patients throughout New York State. Home visits are offered within a 10-mile radius of the office for an additional fee. See our Pricing & Policies page for details.

Insurance, Costs & Logistics

  • Insurance-based care is structured around brief visits and reactive treatment. That model works for acute problems — it is not designed for prevention. Operating outside the insurance system allows for longer appointments, proactive care, and the ability to recommend testing and strategies based on your individual needs rather than coverage criteria.

  • Yes. HSA and FSA funds can be used for visits. Upon request, we provide documentation that may be submitted for out-of-network reimbursement when eligible.

  • What will testing cost? Testing is ordered through trusted local and national laboratories and imaging centers. Many tests are covered by insurance. Costs vary depending on your individual needs and coverage. We consider cost-benefit carefully for any recommended testing and will seek prior authorization when appropriate.

  • Full pricing information is on our Pricing & Policies page.

Treatments & Approach

  • No. When supplements are appropriate, I provide individualized recommendations — but I do not sell them or profit from them in any way. Many patients arrive with a long list of supplements they've accumulated over time. Part of what I do is help sort through what the evidence actually supports and what can safely be discontinued.

  • Yes, when appropriate. As a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner with advanced training in menopausal hormone therapy, I provide evidence-informed guidance on whether hormone therapy is right for you, what type, and at what dose — including for women who haven't had adequate results with prior treatment.

  • Healthspan Neurology does not administer anti-amyloid infusion therapies directly. However, we can help determine whether you may be an appropriate candidate, coordinate the evaluation process, and connect you with experienced treatment centers when indicated.

  • Yes. Integrative strategies — including mind-body techniques, meditation, and medical acupuncture — can offer meaningful benefit for neurologic health. Dr. Gajaweera holds Advanced Certification in Mind-Body Medicine and is licensed in Medical Acupuncture, and incorporates these approaches when clinically appropriate.

  • Yes. When appropriate, wearable tracking tools and technology can provide useful clinical information — and we help patients understand how to use that data meaningfully. Neuromodulation devices may also be recommended depending on your condition, including devices used for migraine and emerging therapies such as gamma light therapy for Alzheimer's disease. These are considered carefully and recommended only when supported by evidence.
